AUDIO FEATURE: Jensen talks about choosing Mt. SAC

PHOTO BY RILEY JENSEN - Crosby Jensen is all smiles as his father Kirk attend the signing day of his son's declaration to play for Mt. SAC.

Before signing day, Crosby Jensen took a trip to the west coast with his family to visit all the schools interested in his quarterback abilities. From Santa Rosa to Mt. SAC to Saddleback and then Arizona — it wasn’t long before Jensen decided that Mt. SAC was his calling. Despite other offers from Utah State and Snow Community College, Jensen said the feeling of ‘home’ is what he appreciated most after touring around the Walnut campus.

Special Note: The Jensen brothers, Crosby and Riley said there were no violations or rule-breaking of any kind regarding the introductions and arrangements of the schools meeting with the family.

I talked with Jensen hours after the first story broke about his declaration to play for Mt. SAC and engaged in a conversation about him, his past, his present and his future:

Utah prep quarterback decides to join Mt. SAC

VIDEO OF CROSBY JENSEN:

Mt. SAC may have another star quarterback in the making come this fall.

Crosby Jensen, a senior quarterback from Cottonwood High School in Salt Lake City, Utah has accepted to be part of the 2010 Mounties football team.

The six-foot-two-inch Utah native was voted by the Salt Lake Tribune and the Deseret News as 2nd team All-State. Along with being the regional II co-offensive MVP ranked 2nd in both total yards passing and total touchdowns, Jensen recorded 2,587 total yards passing with 30 passing TD’s including 3 TD’s rushing and only 9 interceptions this past season.

Crosby’s older brother, Riley, a former coach at North Carolina State and a player at Utah State, assisted and accompanied his little brother while making the decision to come to Walnut.

The two called up the school and met with Mounties assistant coach Daniel Al-Gattas for a campus tour. Al-Gattas took the brothers in, showed them around and were instantly impressed with what the school had to offer, good enough for Crosby to decide immediately, Riley said.

“We visited the campus on Friday and thought about his options during the weekend and made the decision Monday morning,” Riley said. “He just wanted to get it done right away.”

With offers from Arizona Western JC, as well as Santa Rosa and Saddleback, the interest in Jensen was high. But the tour around Mt. SAC swooned him and Riley to favor donning the burgundy and white.

I could tell by observing him during the chalk talk and the trip around campus that he was going to decide on Mt. SAC, Riley said. “The coach did a good job of introducing him and showing him around.”

With the success of them [the team] going to the state championship the last three years and winning it this past year, that pretty much was the factor of his [Crosby] decision, Riley said.

Crosby is looking to start his education at Mt. SAC June 28 this summer and likely will partake in the summer practices.
